BRANDL, Petr. — Painter, born in 1688 in Prague, died in 1739 in Kutná Hora. Through the study of Italian Caravaggisti and naturalists, supplemented by the works of Rembrandt and Rubens, he developed his own style, which made him one of the founders of Bohemian Baroque.
His principal works include: Joseph Finds His Brothers in Egypt (Jindřichův Hradec), The Death of the Prophet Elijah (Prague), The Most Holy Trinity (Kutná Hora), The Last Supper (Košice), Christ on the Cross (Prague, church of St. Bartholomew), The Assumption of Mary (ibid., church of St. James), Death of St. Barbara (Manětín), Glory of St. Ignatius of Loyola (Hradec Králové), St. John the Evangelist (Prague, archiepiscopal residence), St. John the Baptist with St. Anthony the Hermit (Klínec), The Death of Vintíř (Prague, Břevnov), All Saints (ibid., church of St. James).
