BROGGIO, GIULIO e OTTAVIANO. - Architects. GIULIO, b. in Milan, moved very early to Bohemia, of which he became (1673) a citizen, d. at Litoměřice in 1718. At Litoměřice he built the cathedral (1670-81), the chapel of St. Roch (1675), the churches of Čížkovice, of Dlažkovice (1675) and of Palic (1688-92), the church of St. Adalbert and the episcopal residence with its annexed buildings (1689-1701).

OTTAVIANO, his son, b. in 1688 at Litoměřice, d. there in 1742. He built the churches of Maronice (1699), St. Wenceslas in his native city (1714-16), where he had already (1704) erected the Jesuit church and restored the city church (1709), and of Roudnice (1728-34).

The style of the B. is representative of the particular taste which in the countries of Eastern Europe resolves the acquired Renaissance forms into the scenographic and mellow vivacity of the Italian Baroque, more genuinely felt than the classicizing contributions of the preceding century.
