BUCHOLTZ, Franz Bernhard von. — Austrian statesman and historian, b. June 9, 1790, at Münster (Westphalia), d. Feb. 14, 1838, at Vienna. In his activity carried out in the Austrian capital, he brought the spirit of renewal characteristic of the Catholic circles from which he came. His principal work is the history of the reign of Ferdinand I (9 vols., Vienna 1830-38).
