BUNTIC, DIDAK. - Croatian Franciscan, b. at Paoča in Herzegovina on 9 Oct. 1871, d. at Brotnjo on 3 Nov. 1922. He studied at Innsbruck, and from 1895 to 1919 was professor at the gymnasium of Široki Brijeg; thereafter he became provincial of his Order, member of the National Council, and deputy in the Constituent Assembly of the new Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Full of daring and possessed of exceptional social insight, he saved the people of Herzegovina from famine in the years 1915–18, effectively promoted economic improvement as well as the education of the people (by his own method he taught some 13,000 peasants to read and write), and reorganized the studies of his religious province.
