FILIPOVIĆ, SIMEONE. — Franciscan, born in Seonica in Bosnia on 30 September 1732 to a very devout family, died at Ripatransone (Italy) on 9 May 1802. He studied in Italy and, having returned to Bosnia, for more than 20 years devoted himself with great zeal to the care of souls in various Franciscan parishes during the extremely harsh oppression of the Turks, embittered by the defeats they had suffered in the wars of 1683–1718, in which the Catholics of Bosnia had also taken part.
In 1782 he returned to Ripatransone, where, in silence and penance, he lived until his death. The fame of his holiness, which immediately spread among the people, continues to be confirmed by numerous heavenly favors attributed to his intercession. The process of beatification is under way.
