FILIPOVIĆ, SIMEONE. - Franciscan, b. at Seonica in Bosnia on 30 Sept. 1732 to a very devout family, d. at Ripatransone (Italy) on 9 May 1802. He studied in Italy and, having returned to Bosnia, for more than 20 years devoted himself with great zeal to the care of souls in the various Franciscan parishes during the very harsh oppression of the Turks, exasperated by the defeats suffered in the wars of 1683-1718, in which the Catholics of Bosnia had also taken part.

In 1782 he returned to Ripatransone, where, in silence and penance, he lived until his death. The fame of his holiness, which spread at once among the people, is continually confirmed by numerous heavenly favors due to his intercession. The process of beatification is under way.
