CAETITÉ, DIOCESI of. — In the State of Bahia (Brazil), a suffragan diocese of San Salvador, it occupies the central-southern part of that State, which is particularly rich in cotton, cacao, and livestock.
It has an area of 55,500 sq. km., 43,762 inhabitants, 201 churches, 23 parishes, 20 diocesan priests, and 2 women’s religious congregations (1948). The titular saint of the cathedral is St Anna.
Its religious history is that of the archdiocese of S. Salvador, from which it was separated on 13 October 1913 by Pius X’s Maius animarum bonum.
