CANORI-MORA, Elisabetta, Venerable. - Born in Rome on 21 Nov. 1774, died there on 5 Feb. 1825.

She came from a distinguished Roman family and was sent to the monastery of the Augustinian nuns of St. Rita, at Cascia, to be educated there, but she left it after three years because of her frail health. In 1796 she married Cristoforo Mora, a doctor of medicine. In her marriage Elisabetta suffered greatly because of her husband's jealousy and infidelities, and through his dissipation he even brought the family almost to poverty. She endured everything with admirable patience, devoting herself to the education of her daughters and to a life of piety, enrolling in the Third Order Trinitarian. She had supernatural gifts, ecstasies, visions, prophecies; she also endured the pains of the mystical night, and suffered assaults and harassments of the devil. The first fruit of her continual sufferings was the conversion of her husband who, left a widower, became a religious among the Conventual Friars Minor, where he lived and died as a good priest.

Pius IX introduced the cause of beatification in 1864 and Pius XI proclaimed her heroic virtues on 26 Feb. 1928.
