CAPILLAS, Francisco Fernández de, Blessed. - Spanish Dominican, missionary and martyr, b. at Baquerín de Campos, 14 Aug. 1607, d. near Fuan (Fo-Kien) on 15 Jan. 1648. After ten years of mission in the Philippines (1632-42), where he was also vicar of Cayagan and Tuá, he passed to China, where he gathered a good harvest of conversions, despite the raging of war and persecutions. Surprised near Fuan, after a torturous imprisonment, he was beheaded. He was beatified by Pius X (2 May 1909) and the feast was assigned to 15 Jan.

We have from him a very interesting account of the China mission, written during his imprisonment.
