CECCARELLI, NADD. — Sienese painter of the mid-fourteenth century, of whom only a few signed works are known. These are: a panel with the Madonna half-length and the Child in the Cook collection in Richmond, which on its frame, adorned with eight medallions bearing figures of saints, carries the inscription: « Naddus C. de Senis me Pinxit MCCCXLVII »; a small panel with Christ emerging from the tomb in the Lichtenstein collection in Vienna, undated; and a Madonna col Bambino in the Budapest Museum.
Thanks to these three works, it has been possible to attribute to C. with certainty, among other works, the Politico in five compartments with pinnacles, no. 115 of the Siena picture gallery; a Madonna in the Horne Museum in Florence; and a predella with medallions depicting the Pietà and various Saints and coats of arms of the hospital of S. M. della Scala, in the Platt collection at Englewood (New Jersey). This group reveals a modest and graceful follower of Lippo Memmi, rather rapid in execution but extremely precise and refined in workmanship.
