CELLINI, ADOLFO. — Exegete, born at Ripatransone (Ascoli Piceno) on 25 February 1857, died there on 10 February 1920. He taught the humanities and subsequently biblical sciences in the diocesan seminary. For 30 years he was a canon theologian. His writings on biblical subjects are characterized by a sound modernity of criticism combined with respect for tradition. He collaborated assiduously with La Scuola Cattolica from 1906 until his death.
Among his works are: Historical-Critical Essay on the Exegesis of the Bible concerning the Interpretation of the Eschatological Sermon (Florence 1906); The Last Chapters of the Tetramorph and Rationalistic Criticism (Rome 1906); Criticism and Faith in Biblical Exegesis (Florence 1906); The Primacy of Peter Studied in the Divine Book of the Acts of the Apostles (Rome 1907); The Significance of the Title Son of God in Its Attribution to Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels (there 1907); Proporeductica biblica, seu compendium Introductionis criticae et esegeticae in S. Scripturam (3 vols., there 1908–1909); The Last Biblical Crisis (Monza 1914).
