various districts with steadfast zeal, forming sincere and well-prepared Christians. In 1900 he was entrusted with a vast mountainous district, inhabited by a semi-savage population. When famine broke out, through his charity he succeeded in bringing about a consoling movement of conversions. Revolution (v.) broke out, he was captured by them and on 21 July 1911 tortured and beheaded in the village of Yentzepien. In 1918 the process concerning his martyrdom was initiated; his beatification is imminent.
