CONCEPCIÓN and CHACO, DIOCESE OF

In the Republic of Paraguay, erected by Pius XI on 1 May 1929 with the constitution *Universi Dominici gregis*, by separation from the diocese of the Most Holy Assumption, of which it is a suffragan.

It has an area of approximately 200,000 sq. km. and a population of approximately 350,000 inhabitants, divided into 30 parishes, served by 15 secular priests and 18 religious. The first diocesan synod was celebrated on 19 July 1936. The episcopal city, besides the spacious Cathedral dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, possesses, originating from the diocese, the church of Mary Help of Christians, of the Salesians, and the chapel of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.

At Fuerte Olimpo in the north of the diocese, a church dedicated to Mary Help of Christians has been built.
