CONCEZIONE and CHACO, DIOCESE of. — In the Republic of Paraguay, erected by Pius XI on 1 May 1929, by the constitution Universi Dominici gregis, through the division of the diocese of the Most Holy Assumption, of which it is a suffragan.
It has an area of approximately 200,000 sq km and a population of approximately 350,000 inhabitants, divided among 30 parishes, in which 15 secular priests and 18 religious priests work. The first diocesan synod was celebrated on 19 July 1936. The episcopal city, besides the spacious Cathedral dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, patroness of the diocese, possesses the church of Mary Help of Christians, belonging to the Salesians, and the chapel of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
At Fuerte Olimpo, in the north of the diocese, a church dedicated to Mary Help of Christians has been built.
