CORFINIO (SAN PELINO). – On the Via Valeria in the land of the Peligni. The passio Pelini or Peligni (BHL, 6620–21) was composed by a forger in the 11th century, who makes Pelino an archbishop of Brindisi at the time of Julian the Apostate (360–63) and a martyr of C. Equally entirely legendary and from the same period is the life of St Panfilo (BHL, 6418–19), who likewise is said to have been bishop of C. The only certain one is Gerontius, between the years 494–95 (Jaffé-Wattenbach, 648).
