«WE SING TO THE GUARDIANS OF MEN, THE ANGELS». – Hymn for Vespers on the feast of the Holy Guardian Angels (2 Oct.). It consists of three Asclepiadean strophes inspired by the need for heavenly aid in the unceasing struggles that must be waged against the forces of evil. The third strophe is a prayer to the Guardian Angel. It first appears in a Cistercian breviary of 1570.
