DE SANCTIS, GIOACCHINO. - Physician, b. at Frascati in 1788, d. in the reputation of sanctity at Patrica (Frosinone), on 15 Dec. 1855. After earning his degree in Rome, he practiced as a district physician in several towns of the province and particularly at Patrica for thirty-three years. Father of a numerous family (five sons and three daughters), he knew how to reconcile family duties with the ceaseless apostolate he carried out among the sick and the poor. His figure — which mirrors the spiritual life of Rome in the early nineteenth century — anticipates the vocation of the saintly physicians whom the Church of our time points out to the piety of the faithful (the servants of God Giuseppe Moscati, Lodovico Necchi, Riccardo Pampuri).
