DE SANCTIS, GIOACCHINO. – Physician, b. at Frascati in 1788, d. in the reputation of sanctity at Patrica (Frosinone), 15 Dec. 1855. After graduating in Rome, he practiced as a district physician in several towns of the province, particularly at Patrica for thirty-three years. Father of a large family (five sons and three daughters), he knew how to reconcile family duties with the unceasing apostolate he carried out among the sick and the poor. His figure—reflecting the spiritual life of Rome in the early 19th century—anticipates the vocation of saintly physicians whom the Church of our time holds up to the piety of the faithful (the Servants of God Giuseppe Moscati, Lodovico Necchi, Riccardo Pampuri).
