DE SANCTIS, GIOACCHINO. — Physician, born in Frascati in 1788, died in the reputation of holiness at Patrica (Frosinone) on 15 December 1855. After obtaining his degree in Rome, he practised as a municipal physician in several towns of the province, and especially at Patrica, for thirty-three years. The father of a large family (five sons and three daughters), he knew how to reconcile his family duties with the tireless apostolate he carried out among the sick and the poor. His figure—which reflects the spiritual life of Rome in the early nineteenth century—anticipates the vocation of the saintly physicians whom the Church of our time presents to the devotion of the faithful (the servants of God Giuseppe Moscati, Lodovico Necchi, Riccardo Pampuri).
