DEDEROTH, JOHANNES. - An important figure in the monastic reform in Germany in the 15th century, d. a victim of the plague on 6 February 1439. From his native city he was called John of Münden (in Westphalia). Nothing is known of his youth. He was a Benedictine monk at Reinhausen and at Nordheim.

J. Busch always calls him John of Nordheim, while the monk-chronicler Henry Bodo calls him Johann Dederodt (cf. Chron. Clusinum, op. cit. in bibl.).

Through the prior Rembert of Wittenberg he came into contact with the monastic reform of Windesheim. On 21 July 1430 he was elected abbot of Clus and in 1433 abbot of the monastery of Bursfeld, which under his direction became the center of the reform and of the Benedictine Congregation of Bursfeld, which later grouped together 90 monasteries.
