DEMETRIANUS, Saint. - Bishop of Citrum (Cyprus), born ca. 830, died between 910 and 915. Married at 15, after three months he was left a widower by his wife, who died a virgin. D. then withdrew to the monastery of St. Anthony, near Citrum, where he shone for holiness and miracles. The bishop Eustathius called him to his side, made him a priest and then appointed him steward of the diocese. But after some years D. returned to the cenobium and was chosen as archimandrite of the monastery. Later he was called to govern the diocese of Citrum for 25 years. Already elderly, he had to endure the raid of the Arabs, who deported him together with other Catholics to Baghdad. He, however, reproached the caliph for the violation of the treaties and obtained, after a few days, to be brought back to his homeland, where he was also buried. His feast is on 6 November.
