DEMOFILO. – Bishop of Berea (Macedonia), an Arian, d. ca. 386. Deposed by the Synod of Rimini (350), he obtained from Valens the succession of Eudoxius in the see of Constantinople (370), where he remained until Theodosius I deposed him because he rejected the Nicene Creed (380). His successor was St. Gregorio Nazianzeno. D. still appears as an Arian at the Constantinopolitan Synod of 383. His scant writings have been lost.
