DIDIOT, JULES. - Priest, theologian, b. at Cheppy (Meuse) on 14 Aug. 1840, d. at Montbras (near Maxeys-sur-Vaysse [Meuse]) on 20 Dec. 1903. Having earned a doctorate in theology at the Roman College (1864), he taught philosophy and then dogmatic theology at the seminary of Verdun (1864-70) and was librarian of that same city (1871-77). Once the Catholic faculties of the north were founded at Lille, he was called to teach in the theological one, of which he was dean (1877-86; 1893-96), and also to teach sociology. From 1885 to 1892 he directed the Revue des sciences ecclésiastiques. To a notable influence as a professor D. added an abundant literary output, especially of articles in various journals.

Among his major works are: L'état religieux (Verdun 1871); Le docteur angélique st Thomas d'Aquin (Lille 1874); Logique surnaturelle subjective (1892); Morale surnaturelle fondamentale (1896); Morale surnaturelle spéciale: les vertus théologales (1897); La vertu de religion (1899); Contribution philosophique à l'étude des sciences (Lille 1902). He left a Traité de la justice in manuscript.
