DINO, MUGELLANO. - Jurist of the 13th century. After completing his studies in Bologna, he taught law at Pistoia and later at Bologna. In 1297 he was summoned to Rome by Boniface VIII to assist in the compilation of the Decretals; failing to obtain the red hat of a cardinal, he returned to Bologna at the beginning of the following year to resume his teaching. He died in the early years of the 14th century. Of his numerous writings, there remain Commentaries on the Digest and Consilia, in which he displays profound originality.
