DOUJAT, JEAN. - Canonist, b. at Toulouse in 1609, d. at Paris in 1688. He completed his studies in his native city, where, following family traditions, he practiced as a lawyer and later became a professor. From 1651 until his death, he taught canon law in the law faculty of the University of Paris.
He wrote: *Praenotionum canonicarum libri V* (Paris 1687, frequently reprinted). It is a historical compendium of the sources and literature of canon law, still useful today, especially the final book which deals with the history of canonists. Other works: *Specimen iuris canonici apud Gallos usu recepti* (Paris 1671) and *Notae ad institutiones P. Lancellotti* (ibid. 1684).
