DORÉ (Auratus), PIERRE. – French Dominican preacher and controversialist, born around 1500 in Orléans, died in Paris on 19 May 1569. At a very young age he donned the Dominican habit at Blois (Loir-et-Cher), where he would return in 1545 as prior. He studied in Paris, became a doctor of the Sorbonne and regent of the studium of St James. He always enjoyed great friendships and favor.
Among his many ingenious apologetic and ascetic writings, the following should be remembered: Anticaluin contenant deux défenses catholiques de la vérité du S. Sacrement et digne Sacrifice de l'Autel contre certains faux écrits... (Paris 1551, 1568); Les voies du Paradis enseignées par N. S. J. C. en son Evangile (there 1538–40; Lyon 1537–86).
