DROUIN, HYACINTHE-RENÉ. - Dominican theologian, b. at Toulon ca. 1680, d. at Ivrea (Piedmont) on 30 Sept. 1740. Having entered the Order at Toulon (1696), he took his degree at Paris (1713), where he was regent in the convent of St. Honoratus. In 1719 he taught theology at Caen. But in 1722, forced to leave the city because of the hostility of other religious who were in conflict with his uncle, the well-known Dominican G.-G. Serry, he accepted the invitation of Victor Amadeus II and for a decade taught theology at Chambéry. Finally he retired to Ivrea.

We recall the De re sacramentaria contra perduelles haereticos libri decem duobus tomis comprehensi (Venice 1737), a powerful and highly personal work that went through several editions, especially under the editorship of Fr. Patuzzi (2nd ed., ibid. 1756).
