DROUIN, HYACINTHE-RENÉ. - Dominican theologian, b. at Tolone about 1680, d. at Ivrea (Piemonte) on 30 Sept. 1740. Having entered the Order at Tolone (1696), he took his degree in Parigi (1713), where he was regent at the convent of S. Onorato. In 1719 he taught theology at Caen. But in 1722, compelled to leave the city because of the hostility of other religious who were in conflict with his uncle, the well-known Dominican G.-G. Serry, he accepted the invitation of Vittorio Amedeo II and for a decade taught theology at Chambéry. Finally, he withdrew to Ivrea.
Worth recalling is the De re sacramentaria contra perduelles haereticos libri decem duobus tomis comprehensi (Venezia 1737), a powerful and highly personal work which saw several editions, especially under the care of Fr. Patuzzi (2nd ed., ibid. 1756).
