DUBLIN REWIEW, THE.—English Catholic quarterly review. It was founded in 1836 by Daniel O'Connel and Nicholas Wiseman, later a cardinal, chiefly for the purpose of countering the Edinburg Review, a Calvinist organ bitterly hostile to Catholicism, and took its name from Dublin, the largest Catholic center in Great Britain. It had distinguished contributors, including Cardinals Waughan and Manning and, among contemporaries, Hilaire Belloo, Christophe Dawson, etc. It is published in London by Burns Oates and Washbourne.
