DUBLOCQ, JEAN. - Belgian architect, b. at Mons on 25 March 1583, d. there on 25 Jan. 1656. Having entered the Society of Jesus as a coadjutor brother (1606), he was occupied his whole life in the construction of churches and colleges.

His major works are the Jesuit churches at Luxembourg (which was later the cathedral in the 19th century), Arras and St-Omer, the chapels of the novitiate of Tournai and of the college of Maubeuge.

Characteristic of him were his fidelity to the traditional Gothic schemes, tempered, however, by a growing sensitivity toward the new, Renaissance and Baroque forms that were then penetrating into Belgium from France and Italy.
