ECONOMATO DEI DICASTERI ECCLESIASTICI

ECONOMATE OF THE ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNALS. - It was instituted by Pius X (circular of the Secretariat of State, 3 April 1909) as the General E. of the d. and was administered by a Commission, chosen by the Holy Father, composed of a president, an economist and a secretary and inspector.

The first task of the E. of the d. was to draw up an exact inventory of the furniture and other objects existing in the various dicasteries, for which it then provided, as it still provides, whatever they might need (stationery and similar items, etc.). The Holy Congregations de Propaganda Fide and of the Holy Office are independent of this E. of the d.

At present the E. of the d. is composed of a cardinal president (an office attributed to the Secretary of State, president of the cardinalatial commission for the administration of the goods of the Holy See), of a vice-president (who is the monsignor secretary of the said administration), of a cashier and of a verifier.
