AENEAS. – A paralytic miraculously healed by Peter at Lydda, according to Acts 9:33 ff. The name (Αἰνέας), which is also found in Flavius Josephus (Antiq. Jud., XIV, 10, 22), borne by a Jew, suggests that our personage was a Hellenist.
That he was already a Christian is very probable: he is found among the faithful of Lydda; there is no mention of his conversion as a consequence of the grace received, whereas the conversion of “those who saw” is spoken of (v. 35); Peter addresses him as one to whom the person and power of Jesus Christ are known (v. 34).
