HERVEUS NATALIS OF NEDELLEC (also known as Herveus Brito, i.e., of Brittany). - Dominican Scholastic of the 13th-14th century. He studied at the University of Paris, obtaining there in 1307 the title of master in theology. He was provincial for France in 1309 and general of the Order in 1318; d. at Narbonne in 1323. The principal representative of the French Thomistic school in the first decades after the master's death, E. energetically defended the doctrine of St. Thomas against its many adversaries and particularly against Durandus of St. Pourçain.

He wrote a Commentary on the Sentences (ed. Venice 1505, Paris 1657); De potestate Ecclesiae et papae (ed. Paris 1506); De secundis intentionibus. Tractatus 8; De beatitudine, De Verbo, De aeternitate mundi, De materia caeli, De relationibus, De unitate formarum, De tertutibus, De moto angeli; furthermore two collections: Quodlibeta minora et quodlibeta maiora (ed. Venice 1486). The Defensa doctrine Divi Thomae is unfinished, of which the first part was published by E. Krebs.
