EXCERPTA BOBIENSIA. - This is the name given to the collection found in a manuscript from Bobbio (now cod. Ambros. G 58 sup., 10th/11th century) containing, besides Roman texts (drawn from the Justinianic sources, the Code and the Novels, the latter according to the version of the Epitome Iuliani), also texts of canon law. The designation of the collection, Excerpta ex libro legum novellarum et codicis ad episcopos et clerum pertinentia, which appears written in the manuscript by a 15th-century hand, is, according to Maassen and Conrat, of doubtful authenticity.

The collection, consisting of 86 chapters, belongs either to the 9th or to the beginning of the 10th century. It contains, among other things, provisions on the ordination of bishops, on their obligation of residence, on the procedural privileges of bishops, the recognition of the canons of the first four ecumenical councils, the recognition of the jurisdictional power of bishops, metropolitans and patriarchs, and the privileges of clerics and churches.
