FABRO, Antonio (Fabri, Antonius; Antoine Faivre). - French jurist, b. at Bourges-en-Bresse on 4 Oct. 1557, d. at Chambéry on 1 March 1624. A pupil of the Jesuits, he later obtained a doctorate in jurisprudence at the University of Turin. He was then a lawyer at Chambéry, afterwards a judge in various places and finally a member and president of the Senate of Chambéry and governor of Savoy.
He belonged to the dogmatic tendency of the "school of the culti," as is shown by his Iurisprudentia Papinianum, his Rationalia in Pandectas (Lyons 1659-63), his Coniecturarum iuris civilis II. XX (ibid. 1661), but above all by the work De erroribus pragmaticorum et interpretum iuris (ibid. 1598), in which he criticizes opinions founded on erroneous interpretations, due to the practical tendency of the glossa and of the Bartolists. A practical work arising from his activity as a magistrate is, on the other hand, the Codex Fabrianus definitionum (ibid. 1610), a reasoned collection of the "arrests" of the Senate of Chambéry.
