BUS». - This is the Vespers hymn for the feast of the Most Precious Blood, probably composed by Mons. L. Tripopi when that feast was instituted in 1846, owing to the initiative of b. Gaspare Del Bufalo, who had already founded two religious Congregations under the same title.
The ode extols the divine Blood of Jesus shed as the price of human redemption. The new Adam, Jesus, set against the old progenitor, is a fitting demonstration of the latter’s destructive work in contrast with Christ’s healing work. Only his blood possessed the power to appease the Father and to open the gates of heaven to humanity. The doxology departs from the usual conclusions of hymns and is a fervent prayer that the Lord may recreate us in the glory of paradise.
