DAUGHTERS OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF
MARY (Langres). - The Institute was founded around
1835 at St-Loup-sur-Anjou, in the diocese of Langres,
by the diocesan bishop, at whose inspiration a
pious lady, with two companions, devoted herself to the
Christian education of girls and to the relief of the sick
and the poor. The work developed until it became
a religious Congregation under the Rule of St.
Augustine, and, as such, had its constitutions ap-
proved by the same Ordinary of Langres. On 7 Aug. 1867
the decree of praise was granted, and on 21 May 1890 the ap-
proval of the Institute, while that of the consti-
tutions dates from 1938 ad experimentum.
The sisters devote themselves to the Christian education of
girls, promote courses of spiritual exercises among lay-
people, maintain orphanages, and undertake works of Christian zeal, such
as catechisms and tabernacles.
They currently have 8 houses and 60 sisters.
