Frangipani, Ottavio Mirto

FRANGIPANI, OTTAVIO MIRTO. - Bishop of Caiazzo and archbishop of Taranto, d. in 1612. On 13 June 1587 he was sent by Sixtus V as nuncio for Germany, with his seat in Cologne.

During this assignment he reformed the archdiocese of Cologne and had to intervene in the theological disputes of Louvain. In 1596 the new nunciature established at Brussels was entrusted to him. In 1605, as a reward for his long services, he received the archbishopric of Taranto, of which he took possession the following year.
