GARCÍA, NICOLA. - Spanish canonist, of the first half of the 17th century (d. 1645). In Avila, his native city, he was a canon of the Cathedral and professor of canon law. He resided for three years in Rome.
He is known for his classic Tractatus de beneficiis (Saragossa 1609, etc.), reprinted several times, held in its genre to be the most complete and erudite treatise in canonistic literature prior to the CIC.
