GREGORIO GARCIA. - A Spanish Dominican missionary, born in Baeza in the mid-16th century, died there in 1627.
He spent twelve years in Mexico and Peru, where he gathered extensive information on the traditions, customs, and origins of the indigenous populations, which he disseminated in several works. The principal one is *Orien de los Indios del Nuevo Mundo y Indias Occidentales, averiguando por via de opinión* (Valencia 1607), in which he argues that the population of America descends from various migratory currents that occurred at different times and places, an assertion later confirmed by modern ethnology. Among his other writings are a history, *Monarquía de los Indios del Perù*, and *Predicación del Evangelio en el Nuevo Mundo, viviendo los Apóstoles*.
