GEYSER, JOSEPH. - German Neo-Scholastic philosopher, b. March 16, 1869 at Erkelenz (Rhineland), d. April 11, 1948 at Siegsdorf. He earned his doctorate in philosophy at Rome in the Gregorian University (1892) and at Munich (1897). He taught at the Universities of Münster, Freiburg in Br., and Munich until 1935.

Drawing on the Aristotelian-Thomist tradition, G. strove, not without originality, to establish a critical and realistic metaphysics, also utilizing the findings of empirical psychology and the natural sciences, and taking a stance toward contemporary philosophy.
