GEYSER, JOSEPH. - German neo-scholastic philosopher, b. 16 March 1869 at Erkelenz (Rhineland), d. 11 Apr. 1948 at Siegsdorf. He obtained degrees in philosophy at Rome, at the Gregorian University (1892), and at Munich (1897). He taught at the Universities of Münster, Freiburg im Br., and Munich until 1935.

On the basis of the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition, G. endeavoured, not without originality, to establish a critical and realist metaphysics, also making use of the results of empirical psychology and of the natural sciences, and taking a position with regard to contemporary philosophy.
