GIAMBOLOGNA – Jean Boulogne, known as Giambologna, sculptor, born in Douai in 1529, died in Florence on 13 August 1608. Initially a pupil of the sculptor Jacques Dubroeucq in Antwerp, in 1545 he was in Rome, where he met Michelangelo. The encounter with this artist and the study of his works were fundamental to his formation.
In 1567, commissioned by Pius IV, he completed the construction of the Neptune Fountain for the main square.
