ASPETTI, TIZIANO. – Sculptor, born in Padua in 1565 and died in Pisa in 1607. He remained consistently within the sphere of Tuscan Mannerism, particularly that of Giambologna, tempered only, in his early Venetian works, by a certain naturalistic sense derived from Vittoria. His works are preserved in the Palazzo Ducale and in S. Francesco della Vigna in Venice: two statues of Virtues, and two of Moses and S. Paul (signed); in the Cathedral of Padua there remain figures of saints inspired by Donatello, scenes of the Martyrdom of s. Daniele, and in S. Trinità in Florence a relief with the Martyrdom of s. Lorenzo, in addition to numerous bronze statuettes in public and private collections.
