GIOVANNI of LIMOGES (Lemovicensis). — Cistercian theologian. Little information is available about his life. A G. of L. was prior of Clairvaux in 1206–1207; sent to Bacony (or Zire) in Hungary, he remained there as abbot from 1208 to 1218; he died in France around 1250. He is identified with the Cistercian of the same name who appears in the series of masters of Paris, but P. Glorieux doubts this identification, dating the literary activity of G. of L. to around 1270. His Opera omnia was edited by C. Horvath (3 vols., Veszprém 1932).
