LEMOVICENSIS, Johannes (John of Limoges). - Cistercian theologian. There is little information about his life. A John of Limoges was prior of Clairvaux in 1206-1207; sent to Bacony (or Zire) in Hungary, he remained there as abbot from 1208 to 1218; he died in France around the year 1250. He is identified with the Cistercian of the same name who appears in the series of masters of Paris, but P. Glorieux doubts this identification, placing the literary activity of John of Limoges around 1270. His Opera omnia was edited by C. Horvath (3 vols., Veszprém 1932).
