GIOVANNI DI NIKIU
Also known as: German: Johannes von Nikiu; John of Nikiou; French: Jean de Nikiou
JOHN OF NIKIU. - Monophysite bishop of Nikiu, an island in the Nile delta, who toward the end of the 7th century wrote in Greek or in Coptic a Universal History that is of interest for the events of the 7th century and particularly for the conquest of Egypt by the Arabs.
The work has survived only in an Ethiopic version, made in 1601 from an Arabic version (ed. H. Zotenberg, La Chronique de Jean de N., 2nd ed., Paris 1935).
