GIOVANNI of Nikiu. — Monophysite bishop of Nikiu, an island in the Nile delta, who toward the end of the 7th century wrote a Universal History in Greek or Coptic that is of interest for the events of the 7th century and particularly for the conquest of Egypt by the Arabs.
The work has come down to us only in an Ethiopian version, made in 1601 from an Arabic version (ed. H. Zotenberg, La Chronique de Jean de N., 2nd ed., Paris 1935).
