GRAVELBOURG, DIOCESE of. — City and diocese in Canada, erected on 31 January 1930 by Pope Pius XI with the apostolic constitution Universa Christi fidelium cura.
The diocese extends over 19,695 sq km; it has 126,000 inhabitants, of whom 18,500 are Catholics, distributed among 36 parishes, 28 missions with chapels, and 9 without chapels, served by 42 diocesan priests and 27 religious priests; two men’s and 11 women’s religious communities (1949). The diocese is suffragan to Regina; the Cathedral is dedicated to s. Filomena.
