PIERRE-HENRI GROLLIER. - Born on 30 March 1826 at Montpellier, he entered the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1847 and in 1852 went to northwestern Canada. In the Mackenzie River territory he secured for the Catholic mission an advantage over the Protestant mission by founding the stations of Fort Fond du Lac, Fort Simpson, Fort Rae, Fort Norman, Fort Good Hope, and Fort MacPherson. At Fort Good Hope he established the centre of his apostolic journeys among the Indians of the Mackenzie territory. There he died prematurely on 4 June 1864, worn out by hardships and privations.
