GROLLIER, PIERRE-HENRI. — Born on 30 March 1826 in Montpellier, in 1847 he entered the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, and in 1852 went to northwestern Canada. In the territory of the Mackenzie River, he secured the advantage for the Catholic mission over the Protestant mission by founding the stations of Fort Fond du Lac, Fort Simpson, Fort Rae, Fort Norman, Fort Good Hope, and Fort Mac Pherson. At Fort Good Hope he established the center of his apostolic journeys among the Indians of the Mackenzie territory. There he died an untimely death on 4 June 1864, exhausted by hardships and privations.
