GROLLIER, PIERRE-HENRI. - Born on March 30, 1826 in Montpellier, in 1847 he entered the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and in 1852 went to the Canadian northwest. In the territory of the Mackenzie River he secured for the Catholic mission the advantage over the Protestant mission by founding the stations of Fort Fond du Lac, Fort Simpson, Fort Rae, Fort Norman, Fort Good Hope, Fort Mac Pherson. At Fort Good Hope he established the center of his apostolic journeys among the Indians of the Mackenzie territory. There he died a premature death, worn out by hardships and privations, on June 4, 1864.
