GUGLIELMO NASONE (Guilelmus Naso). – Decretalist of the University of Bologna, where he was first a student of Alano di Galles. He was professor of Decretorum in 1222.
Among the glossators of Gratian’s Decretum there is a Willelmus, whom some consider to be our G. N., while others attribute the glosses to Guilelmus Guascus.
Around 1234 he wrote a Commentary or Lecture on the Decretals of Gregory IX, analyzing the individual chapters by an exegetical method. The work is still unpublished: fragments were edited by Trifone, who also reviewed all the Cassinese codices containing works by G. N. (Gli scritti di G. N. conservati nella Biblioteca di Montecassino, in Rivista di storia del dir. ital., 2 [1929], pp. 242–60). Among his works are glosses on the Compilationes antiquae, Allegationes e reportationes on the Decretals of Gregory IX, a Summa relating to them, and distinctiones and repetitiones on the Decretum and the Decretals.
