HIBERNON, ANDRÉS, BEATO

HIBERNON, Andrés, Blessed. - Franciscan, b. in 1534 at Alcantarilla near Murcia, d. April 18, 1602. In 1556, having suffered a robbery that revealed to him the vanity of wealth, he entered as a lay brother the convent of Albacete, from which in 1563, in order to follow the reform of St. Peter of Alcantara, he moved to that of Elche, where he lived with St. Paschal Baylon. From 1591 he was in the convent of St. Roch in Gandia, and there he met the blessed Giovanni de Ribera, archbishop of Valencia, who held him as a most dear friend. He was a man of profound humility and assiduous prayer. Pius VI declared him blessed in 1791. Feast on April 18.
