ISAAC OF AMIDA. - Syriac writer of the 4th or 5th century, of whom it is not known whether he is the same as Isaac of Antioch or different from him. Others, on the other hand, would not want to admit in that era that there were two Isaacs: the one of Amida, an orthodox disciple of St. Ephrem, and Isaac of Antioch, a Monophysite somewhat later than he. According to this hypothesis, the non-Monophysite writings attributed to "Màr Isaac the doctor" would be by our Isaac.
