ISACCO OF AMIDA. – A Syriac writer of the 4th or 5th century, about whom it is uncertain whether he is the same as ISAAC OF ANTIOCH or a different person. Others, however, would not admit that there were more than two ISSACS at that time: the one from Amida, an orthodox disciple of St. Ephrem, and ISAAC OF ANTIOCH, a Monophysite slightly later than he. According to this hypothesis, the non-Monophysite writings attributed to “Mär Isaac the Teacher” would belong to our ISAAC.
