**ISAAC OF ANTIOCH** – Also called the Great, who according to some would be identical with ISAAC OF AMIDA.
It is known from Gennadius that he was a very prolific writer (*De vir. ill.*, 66); but it is not always easy to distribute the writings that in the manuscripts are attributed to “Mar Isaac the Teacher.” He is said to have visited Rome in the time of Arcadius (395–408), to have witnessed the earthquake at Antioch (459), and to have died on 7 August 461. To him belong poems on the secular games (404), on the sack of Rome by Alaric (410), and others.
