IVETTA (IUTTA, IDA, ITA) of HUY, blessed. - Reclusive widow, b. at Huy near Liège in 1158, d. there on 13 Jan. 1228. While still a child she distinguished herself by her piety, modesty, mortification, and patience in adversity.
By her father’s will, she married at a very young age and had three children. Having become a widow, after five years she refused a second marriage and remained free for works of charity and the service of lepers. After one of her three children had died and another had entered the Cistercians, she provided for the third and had herself enclosed in the Cistercian monastery of Orval, where she became renowned for her virtues and for the gifts of discerning hearts and of prophecy. Her sanctity was confirmed after her death by numerous miracles attributed to her intercession.
