JUS PONTIFICIUM. – Title of the quarterly journal founded in Rome in 1921 by the Rev. Alberto Toso (author of a highly regarded commentary on the CIC), devoted to the treatment of canonical subjects; its subtitle was therefore: seu ephemerides Urbanae ad canonicas disciplinas spectantes. Among the periodicals in this field that appeared after the promulgation of the CIC, it was distinguished by its highly scholarly orientation and by the extensive collaboration of foreign canonists, as well as of canonists from the Roman Curia.
Publication was suspended after vol. XX (1940), owing to the difficulties arising from the war; and it was never resumed, since the founder, who had directed it from the outset, died in the meantime (13 Aug. 1946).
