LAMBRECHT, HENRY-CHARLES. - Belgian theologian and bishop, b. in 1848, d. at Ghent on 2 July 1889.
Having received his doctorate at Louvain in 1875 with the well-known thesis: De S.mo Missae sacrificio (Louvain 1875), two years later he held the chair of dogmatic theology at the Seminary of Ghent. He published an extensive commentary on the catechism of Malines: Verklaring van den Mechelschen Catechismus (3 vols., Ghent 1882), a true summa theologica for intellectuals, which rendered great services to all the dioceses of Belgium. Having become bishop of Ghent in 1887, he printed the treatises delivered in the school: De Gratia (ibid. 1887); De Incarnatione (ibid. 1888); De novissimis (ibid. 1889). He left various works in manuscript.
