LAPINI, ANNA MARIA. — Born in Florence on 27 May 1809, she died there on 15 April 1860. Her religious vocation, opposed during her youth, was able to be fulfilled after her marriage, which was marked by suffering and misunderstandings.
In 1856 L. founded in Florence the Institute of the Sisters of the Sacred Stigmata for the care of poor and abandoned girls, following the Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis. She lived in extreme poverty and endured with resignation atrocious physical suffering, misunderstandings, and hostility, especially on the part of the director of her Institute. The cause of beatification has been introduced.
